CTA derailment on Brown, Red, Purple lines

Important CTA-related news flash from RedEye:

According to the CTA, Red, Brown and Purple Line trains are experiencing delays in the area of Clark Junction (north of Belmont), due to an equipment problem.

But several RedEye readers have been tweeting us and alerting us to a possible derailment near Belmont. One tweet said a conductor made an announcement. As of now there are no reports of injuries, just major delays.

As of 9:23, we’re told that the power is shut off from Belmont to Fullerton. Shuttles to Fullerton at Southport with southbound Brown Line trains turning around.
