Dios Mio! Finally! Another hangout in Pilsen other than Simone’s. I hate the Skylark. Sorry but the dark grandpa’s basement-esque vibe just doesn’t do it for me. And I dig Simone’s but I feel like I have been there a million times already and am glad to see something new and affordable.
Now hopefully that artwork they had was not a permanent collection because it was severly depressing and desperately morbid. My apologies to the artist but you can’t win them all. However the menu is fantastic. It’s like Skylark prices but for actual delicious food that you want to eat and a great chic yet laid back vibe that you wouldn’t mind being seen in. (Can you sense my hate for the Lark? ) The veggie quesadilla is the absolute best that I have ever had in a restaurant. The drinks are scrumptious. I had a margarita with chile that I am still fantasizing about.
I went to the Lark for a quick bite with friends but can’t wait to go back. The service was great, which is something that I can’t credit Simone’s with on a regular basis at all. It’s clean and well-priced and has a menu that keeps you coming back for more. I could even see it being a great place to take a date without breaking the bank. They serve meat but it doesn’t reek so I do enjoy it more than Honky Tonk. I’ve heard so many bad things about Nightwood next door I have yet to try it. Del Toro is friendly, fun and affordable. Now please, no more bars in Pilsen. We’re good.
