Forget McDonald's, I'm lovin Allende (Carrie Emge photo for RedEye)
About a month ago I read an interview with local comedian Hannibal Buress and he mentioned Allende as one of his favorite places. Allende is a place for everyone. It’s not just a college student place. I’ve seen middle-aged people, Lincoln Park High School kids, and cops all eat there. The lady (I don’t know her name) at the register is always there and always has a smile on her face. Most people have a staple that they always get at Allende. I always order the steak tacos. My friend always gets chips and salsa (which I recommend getting with whatever else you order). Some people go for a burrito or an enchilada. No matter what, Allende is [almost] always open to save us from starvation.
Allende is conveniently located on Lincoln Avenue right at the Halsted/Fullerton intersection. On Monday-Thursday it is open from 9 AM-3 AM and Friday-Saturday 9 AM-5 AM (according to their Yelp page). Pulling an all-nighter and need fuel? Allende. Saturday night? Allende. People watching session? Allende (one of the best places for this in my opinion). Quick lunch? Allende. Now some people I know only like Allende at a certain time (past 10 pm) and would rather have Chipotle or something else for lunch. I find it to be good at any time of day and it’s really cheap.
A friendly note: This place does not have a restroom! And there’s a $5 minimum for credit/debit card
