It’s that special time of year where the CTA gives us harrowed commuters a little something special–the holiday train. And what’s so amazing about the holiday train, you ask?┬áIt’s an awesome light-covered train that smells like peppermint and cinnamon, with CTA employees dressed as elves handing out candy canes. Oh yeah, and Santa and his sleigh are also aboard. How can you not love it?

My first experience riding the holiday train happened by sheer chance last year, when I was Christmas shopping downtown. I was headed back to Wicker Park when as luck would have it, the holiday train was the next train to pull up at the Washington Blue Line stop. Ever since then, I knew I had to plan to ride this train in order to get an extra dose of Christmas spirit.

And you’re all in luck! The holiday train will be running on the Blue Line starting tomorrow and through Saturday. The CTA already has a full schedule up if you want to try and estimate when the train will be hitting your stop. I rode the holiday train myself last week on the Brown Line and my advice is the train will most likely be running late than ahead of schedule, so try and plan for that. I promise that it’s completely worth it.

Have you guys been on the holiday train? Do you love it as much as I do?
