Here's the deal: I'm a writer and a photographer, who is pretty much obsessed with all things male and hot. Way back in the day, I used to be a stripper, and I wrote a memoir about it called All I Could Bare: My Life in the Strip Clubs of Gay Washington, D.C. Since my time stripping, I've continued to document the strip club scene with my photography. I even have a photo book that chronicles my journeys to various strip clubs across the country: American Boys: a strip club diary. As for my background, I started writing professionally about 10 years ago. I've written for The Washington Post, Entertainment Weekly, Vibe, and Spin, among other publications. Much of my journalistic work deals with music, and I've served as Pop Music Critic for the Buffalo News and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. I hold a Ph.D. in American Studies from the University of Maryland in College Park, and am Associate Professor of Journalism at Northern Illinois University.

One of my favorite things to do is make a person laugh, but the truth is I just love the rush I get when I get someone to laugh even if it comes at the cost of my dignity. I am very sociable and I love gatherings of people in a central location. I love to dance and workout. My favorite color is green. I enjoy reading and the movies. I like when people make random hand motions that serve no purpose and when people talk in stream of consciousness or use catch phrases to excess. I am a Notre Dame graduate in English and native Houstonian. I came to Chicago to make a better life aka live the “American Dream”. It has been one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have a storied background in journalism from high school (yearbook editor/ dork) to today working as an editorial assistant and freelance writer for CS Magazine, Chicago Tribune and now the RedEye. My future goals include aging handsomely like Robert Redford, monetizing my insanity and creating the next Angry Birds so I can retire to the coast of Italy.

Sunny loves to listen people’s problems and give them sound, objective advice. It’s either due to her natural curiosity or nosy nature, who knows? She also digs the whole “helping people” thing. Sunny has lived in Chicago for over 20 years and while straight, considers the GLBTQ community part of her family. In fact, if conducting a demographic survey of her friends, one would find more than 75% of her friends fall under GLBTQ. She is a firm supporter of equal rights and until all people of any orientation can marry, she and her partner will live in sin together.
